Why are we offering VPS hosting? The original idea was simple enough. We were looking for an affordable, yet fast and reliable server locally in Malaysia, to host our azrul.com support site. It has to be fast enough to be accessed locally, as we will be accessing it almost every minute of the day. We found that latency and bandwidth issues makes loading the support site a little annoying. I just wanted everything to load a little bit faster. At the same time, I was also looking to put our FogBugz and Subversion server online, in a remote server. Having those servers in a remote location would help us reduce the risk of data loss in case of fire, power outages or server theft (yes, there was an attempt to break into our office!). Dedicated server wasn't really an option, and I don't really need a full fledge Xeon. The setup cost is way too high. What if I suddenly change my mind after a month? VPS is definitely the way to go. Looking around, there aren't that many VPS provider around and many are using Virtuozzo, which I resent since it is not a real virtual server, merely a server partitioning software. So, here we are. With a team with years of web hosting and server administration experience along with a highly skilled software developer, I decided that Malaysians should have access to affordable high performance hosting, and the rest as they say is the future... |
